Johnny Appleseed was a legendary American who roamed the country side planting apple trees and supplying seeds to the Pioneers of the mid-west. We’ve decided that Johnny was really on to something and that we could all benefit from some modern day Johnny Appleseeds. Although compact fluorescent light bulbs are a little different than apple seeds, the spirit remains the same. Like Johnny, we want to spread something good and wholesome for the entire world: energy conservation.
Our goal is to encourage the use of CFL bulbs and to ultimately phase out incandescent lighting. We believe that every individual has the power to change the world and we believe that small actions can make a huge difference. Our members inspire neigbors and friends to use energy efficient lighting by offering them a CFL bulb as a gift. We pass them out at festivals, malls, concerts and in other public venues. Our hope is that the spirit will be contagious. The enthusiasm and good will of our members and of the One Billion Bulbs community makes us confident that we will all succeed in changing our world for the better.

For members and viewers of this group, the spirit of the Energy "Trek" means:
- We focus on any positive step people take. Most people are energy abusers in some way (cars, TV's, appliances, etc), and Energy Trek wants to encourage everyone to start taking steps to save energy - no matter the size - without being concerned of being criticized for being hypocritical or taking just token steps.
